I was chatting with Paula Kim during Marathon Weekend. Paula, who lives in both California and Florida, first volunteered at DL and then came out to WDW to volunteer. I thought that was cool, and in passing said we should start a Coast to Coast Volunteer Challenge. I mean, the runners have a Coast to Coast Challenge-why not the volunteers?
I didn't think much about it until I saw Paula again a month later at Princess, and she said she had been mentioning the idea to others, and they were interested! Then we spoke again at Expedition Everest. This time, we were standing next to Ted Grozen, a DL volunteer and had come all the way to WDW just to volunteer at Everest. He also thought it was a great idea and said he would be happy to help spread the word among the DL volunteers.
It seemed the idea wasn't going away, so I talked to Tim from volunteer services. He saw no reason why we couldn't do something like this, as long as it was a private effort and we made it clear that such a challenge was not affiliated with RunDisney.
So this blog post is the official start of the (not RunDisney) Sports Enthusiast Coast to Coast Volunteer Challenge!
While I have also created a FB page, I thought a blog would be a better venue to communicate paragraphs of thoughts to everyone. I hope people communicate their thoughts and suggestions through the comments here.
More on what exactly the Coast to Coast Volunteer Challenge is will be the topic for future blog posts.
